First, there was a purple phrase. When it was layered 21 times with each BPM are different by 0.1, dark deep drone sound emerged. The music is called "Purple Phase"... This CD also contains strange electronic music like "Breakout Beats" which is mixture of Breakout-style arcade game and breakbeats, or "Canon for Euler (Electronica Mix)" which is based on Euler's identity. And you can hear "Noise to Sleep (Short Version)" which helps your relaxation.
One day, I was moseying aroud Tower Records Shibuya. Suddenly a word bashed me.
The word was...
Purple Phase!
So I returned home in a hurry, made some sounds of "the purple phrase" whose BPM were different by 0.1, and layered all of them. I tried many variations of timbres and instruments, and found two suitable mixes. They were burned on this CD.
OK, you may say "Well, what do you mean with layering sounds?". So I made a video of my waveform editor. It may clarify my intent.
You can enjoy changing deep sound, even I use only B as a note.
This music is based on Euler's identity, which is considered to be the most beautiful mathematical expression in the world. Since it is based on Euler's identity, it has the following features:
Yes, I know this explanation only confuse you. So, please listen the demo.
One day, I was composing Purple Phase. Suddenly a word bashed me.
The word was...
Breakout Beats!
So I interrupted the work of "Purple Phase", composed music of breakbeats. While the tune was made, I wondered how I could make a video game like "Breakout". I was too busy to make time for composition. Finally it was some days before my first live performance of this music when I could try to use Pure Data. And unfortunately, I found Pure Data did not fit my purpose (or I could not master Pure Data). Then I decided to use Processing, because I used it for my another CD Music of Timetables already.
It was about 2:00 AM when I completed my program. It had some bugs, but I gave up to fix them because I had no time. Then I played the game several times, recorded its sound, and put it into the CD.
You can play the exactly same program on the applet demo page. You can play game, and at the same time, you can play the tune.
It is said that there seems to be an effent of making person realax when you hear white noise. So I applied theta wave (it is said this is a meditation wave) on it, and then added some more effects like band-pass filter or panning. Then the sound of "Noise to Sleep" completed.
To explain about details of this music (or sound), I followed these steps.
Why don't you try this sound if you have a trouble about your comfortable sleep? You may feel noisy this white noise because it is exactly noise. But white noise blocks environmental sound, and the shimmering theta wave will make you pleasant sleep, I think.
